Overview:

Claytor lake offers a variety of fish species and

excellent fishing. The lake is a compound of the New

River which is itself an excellent fishery. In the bass

category alone almost all the species are represented.

The largemouth don't grow as large as in other

Virginia lakes because this is a mountain reservoir

but the striped bass and other fish make up for that.

Striped bass are stocked annually and most years

trophy sized fish are found in the lake. The stocking

of Walleye's was discontinued in 1996 so the

numbers aren't high, but you can still find quality

fish if you look for them. If your still not sure about

this lake, just look at the trophy fish that were

registered there just last year.  Click here to see.
